What Is a Lab Grown Diamond? Real Diamonds, Grown Above Ground

A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond. Not a lookalike, not a simulant: it has exactly the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness, the same brilliance and the same chemistry as a diamond formed in the earth. The only difference is where it grew.

How lab-grown diamonds are made

Instead of forming over millions of years underground, lab-grown diamonds are created above ground using advanced technology that recreates the conditions in which diamonds form. A tiny diamond seed is exposed to intense heat and carbon-rich conditions, and layer by layer a genuine diamond crystal grows. The rough diamond is then cut and polished by the same craftspeople, using the same techniques, as any mined stone.

Can anyone tell the difference?

No jeweller can tell a lab-grown diamond from a mined one by eye, because there is no visual difference to find. Even standard gem-testing tools identify both as diamond. Only specialised laboratory equipment can detect the growth origin, which is why independent certification matters.

Why IGI certification matters

Every certified lab-grown diamond we sell is independently graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, for cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. Your stone ships with its grading documentation, so its quality is verified by experts with no stake in the sale. You are never taking our word for it.

The price advantage

Because they do not require mining, lab-grown diamonds typically cost a fraction of equivalent mined stones. That means a larger, higher-grade diamond for the same budget, with zero compromise on the stone itself.

The ethical advantage

Lab-grown diamonds are guaranteed conflict-free, with no mining impact on communities or landscapes. Modern love, made responsibly.
